Online abstract submission now ended
UICC Home > UICC Congresses > UICC Congress 2008 / Welcome Address > Call for Abstracts

Abstract submission is now closed. 1763 abstracts have been received from 112 countries ! No information about abstract acceptance or refusal will be available before 10 April 2008. Authors will be contacted directly by UICC.

Important dates

30 October 2007: Abstract submission start date
29 February 2008: Abstract submission end date (midnight CET)
10 April 2008: Abstract notification will be sent to applicants
1 June 2008: Abstract withdrawal deadline

Reviewing

Reviewers will assess the abstracts according to the originality of work, its science and potential clinical value, relevance to UICC Strategic Directions, suitability of methods to aims, conclusions confirmed by objective results, objectivity of statements, description of methods used, ethics, standard of English, and overall impression.

It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that their text does not contain spelling, grammatical or scientific errors, as it will be reproduced in the abstract CD-ROM exactly as submitted. No proofreading will be carried out, and no correction will be possible after the submission deadline.

Publications

Accepted abstracts will be published in the Congress abstract CD-ROM, an electronic supplement of the Journal of Cancer published by Wiley-Liss, Inc. for which a voucher will be included in the Congress registration pack. Accepted abstracts will also be listed online, on the Congress website, about two weeks prior to the Congress.

Instructions for abstract presentations

Oral presentations
If an abstract is selected for oral presentation, the author is requested to present it at a specifically assigned session. The meeting room, date and time details will be communicated to the author starting 10 April 2008.

Poster presentations
If an abstract is accepted for a poster presentation, the author is required to be available for discussion during the assigned poster session. No-shows will be identified and authors might be excluded from abstract submission at future UICC World Cancer Congresses.
Posters will be set-up in the exhibition hall. Poster sessions will take place from Thursday to Saturday from 10:00-18:00 and on Sunday from 10:00-12:00 and authors are requested to be present, in front of his/her poster, during the coffee and lunch breaks.
The posters need to be printed in portrait. The usable surface of the display panels measures 250 cm (height) x 100 cm (width); adhesive material will be provided on site.
Please use a large enough font to be read from a distance of 1.5 meters.

UICC is also offering poster authors the option to make use of Call4Posters(TM), a useful poster creation service (provided by Marathon International). Poster authors can create and format their posters in real time, and your final poster will then be printed as a single sheet professional poster. The poster can be shipped either to the congress for pick up at the meeting, or any address of your choice. Authors accepted for a poster presentation will also be notified by email.

Abstract submission and congress registration

Abstract submission constitutes a formal commitment by the author to present the abstract orally or at a poster session and at a time assigned by the Scientific Committee. It is therefore recommended to register for the Congress within the deadlines. In case an abstract has been rejected, its author may cancel its registration. The cancellation policy applies.

Abstract withdrawal

If authors wish to withdraw an abstract, a written request must be sent/emailed to the Congress Secretariat no later than 1 June 2008.

Adherence to abstract submission rules

Abstracts that do not follow these rules will be rejected. If authors do not agree with any of these rules, they should not submit an abstract.
