Geneva Summit

A separate UICC World Cancer Summit will gather leaders of governments, cancer organizations, and research and treatment centres to review progress in the priority actions identified in the 2006 World Cancer Declaration, adopted at the World Cancer Congress in Washington DC in July 2006. The Summit will chart the way forward with specific new initiatives and timelines and address funding issues faced by resource-constrained countries.

Film Festival: 28 - 30 August

UICC is proud to be working with GlaxoSmithKline, whose sponsorship will bring Congress participants the inaugural Reel Lives: Cancer Chronicles Film Festival. This international film festival will raise awareness of the impact of cancer from a global health perspective. Professional, amateur, and student film-makers will be invited to submit films that are thought provoking, educational and inspirational and honour those who have experienced cancer.

Cancer Tales Performance: Friday 29th August 2008 5pm

Nell Dunn's play, Cancer Tales, tells the stories of the experiences of both those with cancer and their families and carers, at each step along their cancer journey. Through these real and personal accounts, the need for better communication between healthcare professionals, their patients and their families are clear. The Cancer Tales Workbook www.cancertales.org will provide an educational resource for healthcare professionals, to further develop their understanding of the emotional and psychological impact of cancer for patients, and to improve communication with patients, carers and families.
