Dear Delegate,
Cancer is a global issue; it respects no borders and
affects us all, directly or indirectly.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
forecasts that by 2020 three out of every five new cancer
cases will occur in resource-constrained countries.
As economic development surges forward and people's average
life span increases, resource-constrained countries in
particular are facing a dramatic rise in cancer incidence.
To make a difference, the International Union
Against Cancer (UICC) invites you,
as a committed member of the international cancer
control community, to contribute to and learn
from others at the next biennial UICC World Cancer
Congress in 2008. It will be held in Geneva,
the seat of many key international governmental and non-governmental
health-oriented organizations.
The Congress programme will focus on public health, prevention,
cancer and tobacco control, palliative care and patient
advocacy as they apply to high and resource-constrained
countries alike. The rapid progress in treatment will
be the centre of many symposia.
Together we can move the cancer control agenda forward
and bring hope to millions.
Therefore, do reserve 27-31
August 2008 in your diary. We look forward to
seeing you then.
