REDUCING CLIMATE IMPACT
At the World Cancer Congress, we're deeply concerned about climate change and its impact on health. That's why we've made it a priority to address this issue. Our belief is simple: when people from around the world come together, progress happens faster. We think meeting face-to-face helps build new partnerships and collaborations. But we also want to make sure everyone can participate, which is why the entire program is also available online. We're committed to being sustainable and always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint while still having important discussions about global health.
ALTERNATIVES TO AIR TRAVEL
We encourage people to avoid flying if they can. If you're coming from nearby countries, we suggest taking a train instead of a short flight. And if you can't make it in person, don't worry—you can still join us online.
SPEAKER & PARTICIPANT MANAGEMENT
All our communication with speakers and participants is done online. This includes things like signing up, getting invitations, and confirming attendance.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRINTING & MATERIALS
Our programs are no longer printed but only digital. We also use recycled materials when we can.
GETTING AROUND GENEVA
Our venue is easy to reach by public transportation or even by foot from hotels located near the train station.
Moreover, all delegates staying at a hotel in Geneva will benefit from free public transportation during their stay.
CATERING/FOOD
As much as possible, the food we serve at the World Cancer Congress is made with local and organic ingredients. We avoid using disposable packaging as much as possible.
Moreover, all unconsumed food (for which the cold chain has not been broken) will be donated to the association La Virgule (Lancy). This is an organisation that provides shelter to people who have lost their jobs or homes and are facing significant challenges in their lives. Without housing and in search of shelter, the association offers them a roof and a hot meal while also providing social support and reintegration assistance."
ENERGY USE
We use energy-efficient devices and adjust the temperature in our conference rooms based on how many people are there.
TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT
We use energy-saving LED lights and make sure to choose equipment that uses less energy. We also share printers to reduce waste.
PROCUREMENT
When we buy things for the congress, we look for companies that care about the environment. We also try to support local businesses whenever we can.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
We separate our waste for recycling, including paper, food waste, glass, and other materials.
REUSE OF BRANDING MATERIALS
We design our branding materials on structures that can be used again. And we store them carefully between congresses to avoid waste.
