Roman
Erin Roman is the Director of the Smoke Free Partnership (SFP) and a public health advocate with a strong focus on evidence-based policy and EU-level tobacco control. She joined SFP in October 2024 through the School for Moral Ambition and has since contributed to key EU tobacco control initiatives, including policy reforms on taxation, product regulation, and advertising, as well as major legislative files such as the Tobacco Tax Directive and the Tobacco Products Directive.
Erin holds a PhD in Business Economics from KU Leuven in Belgium, where her research focused on applying the Value-Based Healthcare framework to improve resource allocation and efficiency in healthcare systems. Her academic work has been published in leading journals including Health Policy, BMJ Open, BMC Health Services Research, and Dermatology. She is also a Visiting Professor of International and Global Marketing at Hasselt University and brings additional experience from roles in business innovation and financial strategy.
Originally from South Africa and now based in Belgium, Erin combines academic rigour with practical policy engagement. She works closely with policymakers, stakeholders, and advocacy coalitions across European institutions, bringing a strategic and collaborative approach to advancing tobacco control and broader public health reforms, with the goal of achieving meaningful and lasting impact in healthcare and society.
