Low-carbon event operations
Working in partnership with the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), the Congress will prioritise energy-efficient event delivery. Meeting spaces benefit from smart lighting and high-efficiency cooling systems, while operational planning aims to minimise unnecessary energy use through optimised room sets, digital signage, and reduced build-and-break waste.
Waste reduction and circularity
A comprehensive waste management approach will be implemented throughout the event. Clearly marked recycling streams will be available across public areas, and collaboration with the venue and suppliers will support waste sorting, reduction of single-use materials, and responsible disposal. Efforts will be made to prioritise reusable or recyclable materials for signage and event infrastructure.

Responsible materials and procurement
Suppliers will be encouraged to follow sustainable practices, including reducing packaging, using certified or recycled materials, and limiting giveaways to useful, durable items. Digital solutions will be prioritised over printed materials wherever possible.
Sustainable catering
Catering services will emphasise seasonal and responsibly sourced ingredients, with a strong offer of plant-forward options. Measures to reduce food waste will include accurate forecasting, portion planning, and redistribution where feasible in line with local regulations.
Sustainable travel and mobility
Delegates will be encouraged to choose lower-carbon travel options where feasible and to make use of Hong Kong’s extensive public transport network. Information on public transport routes to the venue will be shared in advance to support more sustainable commuting during the Congress.
Community and legacy
Aligned with the social responsibility initiatives of HKCEC, the Congress aims to create a positive local legacy by engaging with community organisations where appropriate and promoting knowledge exchange that supports long-term cancer control efforts in the region and globally.
