Director General, Comprehensive Cancer Centre Institut Bergonié, France

François-Xavier Mahon has been the Director General of the Institut Bergonié, the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CLCC) for the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in Bordeaux, since 2016. He has been a Full Professor of Medicine and Hospital Practitioner (PU-PH) at the University of Bordeaux since 2002. A medical doctor by training, he holds a degree in clinical hematology from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bordeaux and a PhD from the University of Bordeaux 2 in biological and medical sciences. Professor Mahon completed a postdoctoral fellowship in 1998–1999 at Imperial College London, at Hammersmith Hospital.

He is a member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the European Hematology Association (EHA), the French Society of Hematology, the European Investigation of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (EICML), the European School of Haematology (ESH), the European LeukemiaNet (ELN), the International CML Foundation (iCMLf), and the Society of Hematology and Oncology (SOHO).

A former President of the French CML Group (Fi-LMC), he has led an INSERM research team and served as Vice-President of Unicancer. He received the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) Award in 2015 and the John Goldman Award from the International Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Foundation (iCMLf) in 2019. He is a Knight of the National Order of Merit. Professor Mahon is the author or co-author of more than 280 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
