Executive Director, Action on Smoking & Health (ASH Canada)

Les Hagen, MSM, is the Executive Director of Action on Smoking & Health (ASH Canada) and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alberta School of Public Health. For the past three decades, Les has provided local, regional, and national leadership on tobacco reduction in Canada, and has helped to secure a number of significant policy measures including a ban on menthol tobacco products. He has also collaborated with numerous health organizations and government sectors on policy measures to reduce and prevent chronic disease. Les has served as Canada’s official NGO delegate at the last two COP summits for the Framework Convention, and he recently helped to successfully defend the Framework from a potentially damaging tobacco industry interference scheme led by Philip Morris. He has received numerous awards for his work in tobacco control including a Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada for his national contributions to public health.
