Dr. Ruihua Xu specializes in GI medical oncology, mainly engaged in the development of novel drugs and individualized treatment for GI cancer. Several of his innovative achievements have international leading position, including research of metastasis of GI cancer, chemotherapy drug resistance mechanism and optimization of clinical management. The 5-year survival rate of his patients leads international advanced level. Dr. Xu has performed a series of research into GI cancer individualized treatment and conducted several global or domestic multi-center clinical trials, and these achievements significantly prolong overall survival time of gastric or colorectal cancer patients. 

Multiple studies have been cited by National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines and applied globally to guide therapeutic regimen of advanced GI cancer patients. In 2015, he was authorized by National Health and Family Planning Commission to draft Chinese colorectal cancer clinical standard as medical oncology leader, Consensus of colorectal cancer liver metastasis MDT clinical practice as chief editor, and Expert consensus of capecitabine maintenance treatment of advanced colorectal cancer.
 

He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed papers on SCI collected journals, among which he as the first author or corresponding author of about 200 papers, including some in renowned journals such as Nature Materials, Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Hepatology, Cancer Research, Leukemia, Clin Caner Research and Cancer.
